ChatGPT Voice Has Improved How I Learn Foreign Languages. Here's How
It's just amazing what ChatGPT Voice can do for language learners.
Hi! A new week and a new exclusive Substack article. This is a especial one that I’ve been working on since I had access to ChatGPT Voice. To be honest, I used to think ChatGPT Voice was useless until I found this very cool use case.
Enjoy!
ChatGPT is disrupting language learning.
In a previous article, we’ve seen how to use GPT-4 to get feedback every time we make mistakes, provide better translations than Google Translate, improve our vocabulary, and more. Now with ChatGPT Voice, we can even have speaking and listening practice any time we want!
I’ve been using ChatGPT Voice over the past weeks and I’ve combined it with other features like Custom Instructions and even with prompts we’ve seen in previous articles to enhance the way I learn languages.
Here’s how to use ChatGPT Voice to improve how you learn languages.
First things first — Setting up voice language and custom instructions
First, we have to open ChatGPT (using the phone’s app), click on the three dots, tap on settings, and in “Main Language” we have to select the language we’re learning.
In my experience, it’s better to set your target language in “Main Language“ because if you leave it in English, ChatGPT will switch back and forth from English to your target language over and over again.
But, don’t worry, we’ll also set up Custom Instruction to get the text/audio of ChatGPT responses in English.
Here’s the text you have to paste into Custom Instructions.
