OpenAI's Sora 2 is amazing! Here's how I got early access

Sore 2 might be the ChatGPT moment for video generation. Here's how to get access in three steps

OpenAI just released Sora 2 —their flagship video and audio generation model.

I’ve said many times that Sora sucks at video generation, but I’ve changed my mind with this new version. Sora 2’s videos are far more physically accurate and realistic (see here and here). It still produces occasional flaws, but the success rate is much higher, and you can even add yourself to videos via cameos.

Sora 2 was launched as a new social iOS app called “Sora.” To use it, you need an invitation code. I didn’t have one at first, but in this article, I’ll show you, step by step, how anyone can get a code from the official OpenAI Discord server.

It’s simple. You only need a ChatGPT account and a Discord account

By the end of this article, you’ll be able to create videos featuring yourself, Sam Altman, and other people—like the one below.

If the code doesn’t work anymore, just follow the steps below to get one.

Step 1: Log in to Sora 2 with your ChatGPT account

Go to Sora’s site and log in with your ChatGPT account. After logging in, you should see the image below. Click on “Enter invite code.“

Note: If you see the message Sora isn’t available in your country, you can still get access by using a VPN and connecting to the USA, as I did.

Step 2: Discord Verification

Go to the official OpenAI Discord server, log in with your Discord account (or create one), and accept the invitation to join the OpenAI server.

After that, you have to answer 3 questions and agree to the server rules. Then go to the left panel and click on the OpenAI logo, and then click on “# openai-verification.”

You’ll need to verify that you have an active OpenAI account. Just click on “Verify with OpenAI.“ If you’re already signed in to ChatGPT, verification should be quick.

Step 3: Use the codes shared in the “sora-2“ channel

Once the verification is done. Refresh the Discord page and click on “sora-2“

There, you’ll see a chat with people sharing codes to get access to Sora. Once a code is published, you have to quickly copy/paste it into the Sora site (before someone else does it).

It took me 10 minutes to get a code that worked for me, but that’s because I was typing the codes on my iPhone, and by the time I finished typing, the codes had already been used by other users. That’s why I recommend opening Discord and the Sora site side by side so you can copy/paste the codes quickly.

Create videos with Sora 2

Once you get access to Sora 2, you can generate videos by typing a prompt. You can even add yourself, Sam Altman, and others to the video via cameos.
